Short project description
The aim of the project “The Blue Waters” is to look at the Sea as a part of historical context of contemporary culture. Historic events by the water were frequently fatal for the dialogues amongst cultures to spread. For example, 650 years ago in Ukraine, united army of Grand Duchy of Lithuania won against Mongol-Tatar Horde and this way Europe was saved from their aggression. Grand Duchy of Lithuania soon after this battle became the biggest state in Europe at that time: uniting nations between the Baltic to the Black seas.
Seas and the great waters always invite to open up for other cultures, exotic worlds and mystic places. The sea can also become an incentive force for inner life or the reminder of mythical images. Finding the shelter near the sea for many artists can be a great opportunity to reflect on the past or on the perspectives and horizons of the future.
The aims of the participants of this project are to express this cultural significance of seas and great waters in their own way, to foster intercultural dialog, to remember and rethink links amongst cultures and nations of the Baltic and the Black seas. Also, to reveal value of the waters in human attitude, to share their thoughts about known and unknown distances and depths in external and inner sense.
Artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Great Britain and other states and nations of the great waters are invited to participate in this project.
