HANA WICHTERLOVA INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM 2011


Conditions of participation in the X HWISS - July 21nd to August 4th 2011

Enrollment is very easy – participants are required to fulfill only couple of conditions:
* a sculptor working in wood, with the knowledge of creating sculptures in the open air
* a student of the University/ School of Applied Arts - Sculpture studio (the last year) working     in wood, with a reference of her/his professor      
written application (download – PDF file – 69 KB, online application) and appendices
must be sent by 30th April 2011. It is required to send following appendices with the application (or no later than 30th April 2011):
    • Documentation of woodworks
      (Photos - size 10x15, catalogue, eventually a link to personal website)
    • Sculpture sketch – trace in the scaling factor of 1:10
consent with the deed of gift (a deed of gift template is available for download: PDF file – 30KB), which confirms that the sculpture will become a possession of the city of Prostějov
Organization of the symposium grants a full compensation to selected authors:

* sculptures will be made in National House exteriors and in the adjacent town park
* the material will be oak, ash, poplar
* accommodation, food, and material is guaranteed and funded by organizers and producers
* accommodation will be in a hotel, single room with shower and toilet, 200 meters from the workplace 
* food will be ensured three times a day, 50 meters from the workplace
* each participant must have their personal tools and saw. 
    High-lift track, pallets, jacks, saw sharpening and tools are ensured by the organization 
* each participant covers their own transportation costs
* each participant will be awarded by 10 000 CZK after the sculpture is finished 
 
Assignment
Sculpture in wood, preferably vertically compounded, a free motif. 
The sculpture will be placed in suitable setting chosen by  http://www.sculpturesymposium.cz/ Prostějov town.

International creative project “Landscape painting”

Short project description

Project is dedicated to the Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876 - 1966) – to one of the most prominent personalities of Lithuanian cultural life. The axis of the creative legacy left by A. Žmuidzinavičius consists of landscape drawing and especially of pictures of the Lithuanian seaside. Consequently landscape of Lithuanian seaside should become for the participants of the project the object of creative interpretation, an opportunity to convey these well known and popular motives in one's own way. Each artist by bringing his own idea would shape it in his individual and very different way and be completely free to chose his creative expression from traditional and realistic to generalized and abstract painting compositions.

The organize obligates to provide:

Working conditions:
*15 artists from Lithuania and abroad will be invited to the project.
* one framework with canvas (120x100 cm)
* at the end of project to present art works in the exhibition
Living conditions:
*separate single apartments (free accommodation)
*common studios place
*provided meals (breakfast)

N.B. project for the financial support is provided to Lithuanian Cultural Support Foundation. Organizer will cove more working and living and expenses, if project receives state funding

The artists obligate to provide:
* have to cover their traveling (round-trip) expenses
* have to bring other (specific) tools
*provide theirs own health insurance and visas (if it is requested)

Call for artists! AIZ residency 2011 in Latvia


We are happy announce the third workshop AIZ – artists residency open call for artists who might be interested in a half a month of research and exchange  in Latvia.
1 – 14 August 2011, at SERDE workshop and residency center in Aizpute, Latvia.

The deadline for applications is 1 March 2011. 


AIZ – artists residency (AIZ in the Latvian means; behind, beyond, over... across) is an artists-run, non-profit-making initiative unique in the Latvia that provides a creative arena for artists who are ambitious for their work and open to the challenges of an environment that demands experiment, co-operation and exchange. Artists can work in a variety of disciplines and media: installation, land art, performance, video, painting and sculpture, ceramics, time-based, photographic, etc. We are planning to have 10 artists in the workshop.

 

The Workshop has received funding from the State Culture Capital Fund of Latvia, Aizpute municipality and other private individuals and organizations.

The Interdisciplinary art group SERDE is public association in Latvia and the mission statement of the organization is to develop the regional and international collaboration between different culture fields, organizations and professionals.


Since 2002 SERDE has developed the public workshop centre in Aizpute, a small town in Kurzeme region of Latvia. SERDE is located in old wooden historical buildings with technical equipment for experimental and innovative projects, and offers residencies for local and international artists, culture workers, activists, managers and scientists.
